With summer fast approaching, we're thrilled to bring back our Cave and Basin Mural Project for Summer 2024! Last week, the Whyte Museum hosted a Cave & Basin Mural Workshop with our talented artists and mentors. A lot of time, thought, and preparation goes into this summer mural project, making the guidance from other artists and mentors essential.

Our incredible mentors for the workshop include:

Joseph Sanchez: A painter from the Indigenous Group of Seven, Joseph offers guidance on image content, connection to place, and artwork creation, along with techniques and drawing development.

AJA Louden: A street/mural artist and graphic designer, AJA helps artists with development, material selections, and painting and drawing techniques.

Bruno Canadien and Nathan Meguinis: These painters and public art artists assist with translating ideas onto a larger scale and developing painting and drawing skills.

Dawn Saunders Dahl: A painter and public art administrator, Dawn supports all aspects of the administration process, from aiding mentors and artists to content creation, artwork installation, metrics, and safety.

This year's artists for the project are:

Stoney artists: Cheyenne Bearspaw, Giona Smalleyes, Jarron Poucette, and Kyle Kaquitts

Blackfoot artists: Kristy North Peigan and Brendon Many Bears

Come watch the artists paint from June 2nd to 16th at the Cave and Basin! From June 11th to 13th, the artists will be on-site from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. to answer any questions. We can't wait to see you there!
